Neo P1 is a bio-engineered air-purifying plant made by Neoplants

We know that there is a lot being done in the field of health and air purification and with the rapid increase in pollution over the decades which will just keep on getting worse in parts of the world such as India and China, it is a must to keep innovating on air purification products. But did you ever think that there would be a bio-engineered plant that would help you to purify your room. Well, if you did not then think again because French startup Neoplants is showing off its progress with its houseplants that work as air purifiers designed for the home. The bio-engineered plants can, according to the company, replace 20 “regular” houseplants, as measured by how many pollutants the plants can remove from the air.

Basically, the idea here is that you won’t have the need of air purifiers that are just cleaning your air and making noise if you replace them with these plants that not only purify the air but also add aesthetic value to your rooms. We actually see this being useful in indoor environments such as offices and homes where people anyways place plants so as to breathe fresh air due to the oxygen exhaled from the plants.

Neo P1 addresses the critical problem of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that pose health risks within our homes and offices. Developed using synthetic biology, this high-tech houseplant outpaces its unmodified counterparts, namely Epipremnum aureum — or “devil’s vine” as it’s ominously called among friends — significantly air-scrubbing qualities for substances such as formaldehyde and toluene, commonly found VOCs in homes. The company claims that its plants are 20x more efficient at air-scrubbing than their non-modified counterparts.

Talking about Neoplants, this company was founded in 2018 so it has been operational for more than 5 years now and it has already raised $20 million till date. TechCrunch reports that Neoplants “showed charts and graphs showing that its plants are taking a sustainable and potentially game-changing approach to enhancing indoor air quality that may well spark a greener, cleaner revolution in our living and work spaces. Besides, they look a lot better than even the best-designed air purifiers out there.”
