Health and Wellness Informatics News

ONC and CDC are working together to solve the opioid crisis. They are using an Integration framework. It has tools for solving this healthcare crisis.

ONC is the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. CDC is the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. They are working together. It is also for the development of an integrated framework. It is for the fight against the opioid crisis.

The tool helps improve PDMPs. PDMP is a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. It is within the workflow of clinicians. It will also help improve clinical decisions. They can help fight the opioid crisis.

The tool also helps to increase the integration of PDMP with other IT systems. The systems also include pharmacy systems and other electronic health records. The integration also means fighting off the opioid crisis sooner and faster.

The integration framework gives us lots of practical tips. The tips also aim at healthcare settings. ONC and CDC recommend this. The tips can help with better communication.

The agencies are working continuously to improve the framework. The agencies have also worked with 8 health systems. These health systems are in 5 states.

There are 6 health systems in 3 states. They also help the agencies observe the effects of PDMP-EHR integration. The sites are in Kentucky, Utah, and Nebraska. The integration framework has many key elements.

There is a Quick Start guide. It offers context and background for many terms. Integration Taxonomy also provides many approaches for integration. Finally, training guidance is for common questions.

Auditing Guidance is for tips on transactions. MOU Guidance has points for the integration of PDMP-EHR data. It helps in agreements also. Testing Guidance and Testing Template also helps in the process.

Drug overdose took 107,000 deaths in 2021. This is a frightening number. This also shows how important it is to help the agencies fight this opioid crisis. Only 5% of overdose patients in the US get tested for fentanyl and other opioids. It is important to increase vigilance.

We should work on the framework to help fight off the opioid crisis. This is a new epidemic. ONC and CDC are also working together to solve this major problem.
