India to roll out National Digital Health Mission

India is now about to launch its Digital Health Mission. After piloting this program for the last few years, it will formally mark its advent on 27th September.

India is now all set to officially launch its National Digital Health Mission from next week on 27 September.

NDHM intends to create the foundation necessary to support its integrated digital health infrastructure of the country. NDHM is now popular with the name Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission. The authorities first piloted it in August from last year across six union territories. It is also looking to bridge the existing gap among the various stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem of India. It is especially focusing on digital highways.

The National Health Authority works as the government body. They are also working to implement the program based on the guiding principles laid out in the National Digital Health Blueprint.

Some of the digital systems are getting built as part of the PD-DHM ecosystem. These systems include the digital health ID, health facility registry, personal health record, a registry for the doctors- Digi-Doctor, and electronic health record.

The three platforms, digital health ID, health facility registry, and the Digi- the doctor is in operation now.

Last month NHA received public comments on its Unified Health Interface projects. This project is part of the NDHM. The project intends to create an open, interoperable platform that connects digital health solutions. Patients and providers can use it to discover, pay, book, and fulfill a variety of digital health services. They can get the service like teleconsultation across the applications.

India has shifted quite quickly to the digital health infrastructures upon the pandemic. To avoid the gathering in hospitals and clinics, both the government and the private health sectors have taken necessary measures to shift to telehealth.

This mission of the country will hopefully strengthen the nation’s goal to solidify this field further for a better health ecosystem. It will be clear after the launch how efficient this mission is to meet the growing demand of the nation.
